Research Technician Position Available
at Children's Hospital Boston
An NIH-supported research technician position is available
in the Gastrointestinal Cell Biology Department at Children's
Hospital. We are seeking a friendly and motivated research
technician to join our growing research laboratory. The primary
responsibility of the technician will be running the cell
culture laboratory, which involves both standard and highly
specialized mammalian cell culture techniques, documentation
of cell growth, and working closely with researchers requiring
cultured cells. The technician will express and purify protein
from bacterial cells using established protocols, and eventually
become adept at developing customized protocols. The position
includes various materials management responsibilities such
as ordering, maintaining stock supplies, and interacting
with vendors and the Children's Hospital purchasing department.
We expect the technician will become a valuable member of
the laboratory and routinely assist other researchers with
various aspects of their projects. This position is a wonderful
opportunity for a science-minded individual to develop their
technical skills and launch a scientific career.
The
successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in
biology, biochemistry or similar field, and some experience
in a research laboratory with protein biochemistry techniques
and mammalian cell culture. The candidate should know the
basics of protein expression and purification protocols,
in addition to biochemistry assays, including Western blotting
and ELISA. Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques
is also desirable. Analytical thinking and the ability
to compute mathematical and chemical equations is necessary,
as well as highly developed interpersonal skills and the
ability to closely interact with other researchers on a
daily basis.
